| Manipulating Your Metabolism |
|
Exercising is the main predecessor as to what helps all and any of us gain a faster metabolism. Particularly, after any period of exercise our metabolic rate is running at a much faster level than it is when we have been sedentary for the last couple hours. Some of us have a faster metabolism than others but that doesn't mean those who currently have a slower rate are SOL. All you have to do is get your metabolism to work to your benefit! You can do this by becoming more active on a regular and daily basis. Your body will adjust its metabolism to go faster the more you exercise. Therefore you will burn more calories while being active and also while being inactive. You can also increase your metabolic rate by consuming the reccomended amount of essential fatty acids every day. Females should consume roughly 20 - 25 grams of essential fatty acids per day, based on a 2,000 calorie a day diet. Males should consume roughly 25 - 30 grams of essential fatty acids per day, based on a 2,500 calorie a day diet. These are the good fats we need to survive. Eating saturated and/or trans fats will decrease your metabolic rate. Try not to eat breakfast directly after you wake up in the morning. After sleeping, your metabolism will be going at a much slower rate than at any other point in the day. Save breakfast as the last thing to do before leaving your house. Give your metabolism some time to wake up and get going. Working out before a meal is also a great strategy. Going to the gym or going for a walk or run before a meal will work wonders for your body and mind. Remember to drink 6 - 8 glasses of water every day and get 8 - 10 hours of sleep every night. These tips are also said to help with boosting your metabolism. Written by CJ H, Mar 2007. Last updated Dec 23 2007. |
